Life is too short for boring stories

“Well then, my boy,” a tall, portly gentleman with white hair demanded of Jonah, “What do you have to say to us.” Jonah took a deep breath, and then he blurted out:
“You must stop ruining the world, poisoning the water, the seas, the soil and the air, wasting the resources and exploiting animals, right now and immediately.”
“I think we agree that we’ll start right away,” the gentleman replied, after which he cast a questioning look around, “Who’s in favor?” Immediately all arms shot up. “You see, we are unanimously in favor,” said Jonah to that gentleman, whereupon all those present told him what they intended to change. It sounded convincing.
“All right, then I’ll be leaving now,” said the man who had come on behalf of a god he didn’t believe in.

Jonah walked away and went to the nearest pub where he ordered whiskey after whiskey, he was so frustrated with life.
“The prophet doesn’t count for anything in his own country,” he said to the bartender, “Now they’ve agreed to change everything and then the world just won’t end or no, the world won’t end anyway, it will humanity survives. That’s actually terribly unfair. They managed for almost 200 years as if there was no tomorrow, exploited and destroyed and annihilated everything, and then I come along and tell them to do things differently. And what happens? You make it easy. That’s enough to pull your hair out. Acting like they can make things right, all the crimes. Imagine if the head of Monsanto said they would just make more organic fertilizer and leave the seeds to those who need them. Not only do they want to stop cutting down the rainforest, but they also want to protect it. Instead of meat, there is now – for the die-hards – this laboratory meat and no other. The animals are allowed to spend their old age in peace and joy, are no longer bred and simply die out so that there is room for the wild species again. And those from the previous oil companies, they are all switching to sustainable energies, regional productions are being promoted and I don’t know what else. And just like that. Do you know how I feel? Like the biggest idiot. They’re told that they’ve been the biggest destroyers so far, straight to the face, and instead of just carrying on with their own prepotency, they change everything. Everything. This is so unfair that everything will be fine now. And at the end they say, yes, we’ve wanted to do that for a long time anyway. climate change? Yes, that was just a fake.”
“And that’s what annoys you, that the destruction doesn’t happen? So, everything went well, and everyone is saved. Isn’t that wonderful?” the bartender asked. Jonah finally took a closer look at it. He looked like the man who had pulled him out of the whale’s mouth, except instead of wearing overalls and a matching cap, he was wearing black pants, a white shirt, and the obligatory apron.
“Really now? Are you again?” Jonah simply said, “Can’t you just leave me alone?” With that he drank his whiskey, paid and went, not just out the door, but up the hill in front of town. So, he sat down under a tree. It was scorching hot, and he enjoyed the shade, but then the tree withered, and he was exposed to the scorching sun. “It’s okay, I get it,” Jonah said in his mind, remembering the ending of the original story, “You can make trees blossom and wither. But you actually want life and that’s why you find this rescue very cool. And actually, I have to admit, it affects me too.” With that he turned around, back to his home and his old life. Many years later, when others thought he was odd, he told the story. Everyone laughed at him because they believed the official historiography. But in the end, it really didn’t matter. The main thing was that everyone was saved. And maybe there is someone who believes him and tells this story again when it is necessary to learn from it and do the right thing.
