We are destroying nature, biodiversity, the oceans and thus ourselves. The first harbingers are there and cannot be denied. Australia was on fire. Canada too. Never mind, this is far from us. But now the effects are also coming to us. There is a fire in Europe. Admittedly on the edge, but quite close. Torrential rains in the middle of Europe. Many people lose everything they have within a few hours. That is more worrying. But we have to take care of the poor people and not environmental protection. Of course, we have to take care of the people, but not to be allowed to say that this suffering is homemade because politicians worldwide have not done their homework, that is going too far. It could have been avoided, like many other things that will now follow. You should keep that to yourself, because that sounds like a know-it-all. But the main reason is, it spoils the fun.
We want fun. Life is hard enough. We don’t want to think about environmental degradation, the suffering of living beings, because life is difficult enough. And because life is so difficult and problematic, you cannot reflect on and question your own actions. And definitely not hear that we should consume or produce less or forego something else. In the end, that would lead to something being changed in the familiar, which makes it even more complicated. Anyone who pursues meaningless work all day long and continues with consumption does not want to be challenged intellectually, but rather to lose oneself in the shallowness, to forget the problems in the bland. That is why shallow but at the same time superficial romance novels are booming, dripping with clichés and stereotypes, whether as a book or a film. Of course, this has the advantage that broad consensus can be expected. Likewise, in cabaret, in which the same man-woman problems are repeated until they are gassed, in order to be sure that this is normal, because if everyone else laughs about it, then it fits. And it’s so much fun. In addition, alcohol consumption is fueled, because it is even more foggy and you don’t have to be afraid of accidentally getting a clear thought. Not to mention the music. Tearjerkers dripping with lard with the same melodies to increase the recognition factor and thus acceptance by the listener is the secret of success. Of course, the topics should only be about heart and pain. Anything else would go too deep and spoil all the fun.
Of course, it is not fun to constantly spread bad news and it would be nicer not to have to, but as long as our survival is at stake, as long as we destroy the future of the following generations, it is necessary and there is hardly anything more irresponsible than hiding all these things under the cloak of fun because it spoils it. It’s just stupid that the coat is becoming more and more porous and the sand in which you stick your head is washed away. At the latest when you are affected yourself, laughter gets stuck in your throat. But don’t worry, then you can still say you didn’t know, because all the fun you couldn’t see anything else. On the other hand, until the time comes, those who are now so vehemently in favor of an ongoing fun culture are dead. That’s why they don’t really care, because if the flood comes behind me, then I can at least say I have it was fun. Fun and joie de vivre are something beautiful – and I’m looking forward to the day when I no longer have to spread bad news with a clear conscience, simply because it no longer exists. But until then, it is necessary to think and do things that are not fun, but which save our lives. I already know that those who are forced to have fun and those who are superficial on principle will not change anything, but there are also others who are empathetic, understanding and reflective. I place my hope in them.
