Life is too short for boring stories

„Just an hour!“, I thought, „Then you’re home and I have not even started cooking.“ As always at the last minute, I broke away from my job and began to prepare everything in the kitchen I needed to prepare an evening meal to feed a poor, tired man. „Shit, no rice there.“ Another look at the clock. It would be reasonable to go to the supermarket quickly and still start cooking in time. If I did not finish, then you would have to wait a few minutes. At the thought dreaded me. You and wait? No, it had to go out. So, I went in the middle of the worst snowfall we had experienced in a long time.

A few minutes later I was on my way back. Cumbersome, I fished my phone out of my pocket to see what time it was. „Very good, that can still go out,“ I tried to calm myself, without really succeeding. With effort, I stuffed the phone back into my jacket pocket as the rice fell from my hands, but instead of a silent bang in the snow, there was a soft whimper. I looked closer. Then I also discovered a string that was tied to a small tree. I took the cord in my hand and followed it to the other end, which was tied to a collar. The collar, in turn, was worn by a small, black dog, which was already completely covered in snow. I gently released him from the snow. Only then did I realize how he was shaking. Without thinking for a moment, I untied the cord and took it in my arms. I brought him home as quickly as possible, carefully rubbing him dry with a towel and preparing a soft spot in front of the fireplace. Slowly the shaking stopped and he calmed down. After feeding him, he fell asleep exhausted.

„What’s that supposed to be?“ You asked, looking over my shoulder at the small bundle of life that was visibly startled by her rude tone of sleep.
„Do not be so loud, he’s still pretty scared,“ I replied. I really had not heard you come, I was so engrossed in the sight of this dog, which would doubtlessly have frozen if I had not found him by accident.
„What is that?“, You continued loudly, ignoring my request intentionally.
„That’s a dog,“ I explained in confusion, since that was hard to miss.
„That’s what I see!“, You said to me, „You know exactly that I do not want any animals in the house.“ I had not known that, but that had never been an issue.
„Should I have let him freeze in the snow outside?“ I replied, unsure.
„Not at that moment, but you could have taken him away right away to the shelter or something,“ you said, and now I saw her, the anger in your eyes.
„I could not have done that without a car. Also, it needed to warm up and regain its strength,“ I kept trying to reassure you, though I did not really believe I would
„At least cooked?“, You suddenly changed the subject.
„I completely forgot about that,“ I admitted, remembering that the rice was still out in the snow.
„So the mutt is more important to you than me! He gets something to eat, but not me! „, You said to me, „I tell you one, never has anyone treated me as shabbily as you. And I do not like that. Either the dog is walking or me. „
„Is that your last word?“ I asked, no longer insecure, because this being needed my protection and my help, but you did not.
„Yes, that’s it!“, You gave back indisputably.
„Well, then you know where the door is“, I explained sadly, but also a little relieved, because otherwise I would not have noticed how heartless you were.

I heard the door slam shut. Then I turned to the little one, who slowly calmed down and finally fell asleep. And I was sure there could not and cannot be another decision.
