Life is too short for boring stories

„Now that has already expired,“ sounds your normally melodic voice through the kitchen, much louder than necessary, where I’m still close to you, „Say you do not look at all when you go shopping?“
„What do you mean?“, I ask, also to gain some time because your attack irritates me a bit, especially as I just think about the most important question of the day, what you could cook today, thinking in my mind the content go through the fridge and other storage cabinets, „What has expired?“
„The spread that I wanted to eat for breakfast right now,“ you say, placing it in my field of vision so that I cannot miss it. So clearly not affecting my cooking plans, however these will look like. Then I pick up the package and look at the label extensively until I finally find the date from which it should be inedible, probably even deadly. You are standing, with your arms crossed over your chest, beside me and you are becoming increasingly impatient.
„What’s the date today?“, I ask, because I do not want to think of it. I do not have it like that with the current date.
„Today is the 18th,“ you explain to me.
„And the spread stops according to inscription until the 17th,“ I reply.
„You see, it has expired!“ you reply, almost triumphantly, „Admit it, you meant that I did not see that.“
„But the expiration date is only an indication. He can still hold for several days. Everyone knows that,“ I say, but a little impatiently.
„You mean like our relationship,“ you give sneaky back. I always find it amazing what caprioles hit your mind. From the delicious green core spread to our relationship. Actually exciting.
„So, if you think you cannot eat it anymore, then I’ll eat it,“ I explain, because the thought of enjoyment draws my attention to my never-ending appetite.
„So you’re giving it to me?“ you ask, without taking even the slightest notice of what I just said.
„I do not admit anything. Not without my lawyer,“ I explain, hoping that you can make a smile, but the opposite is true. You’re getting angry.
„You do not take me seriously!“ you yell, „Not even now.“
„What do you mean, not even now?“, I try to clarify, finally, what you mean now.
„I’m talking about our relationship, and you about the damn spread,“ you say, which does not really help me much.
„And why are we talking about our relationship now? I thought it was about the spread?“, it is now to me to be irritated again.
„The spread has an expiration date, and our relationship too,“ you say.
„A relationship is like a spread in your eyes?“ I hake.
„No, I did not say that, but both have an expiration date, a spread, and a relationship. That’s why they’re not the same because they have something in common,” you explain.
„And where is the expiration date printed?“, I ask now. Because I want to know it. And because you scare me. A little bit, at least.
„It is nowhere printed and there are no guidelines for it,“ you explain, indicating that you know something that was previously hidden from me.
„And how do you recognize it then? Or how do you know that?“ I continue to understand.
„How to deal with each other,“ you say evasively.
„So, if you put outdated spreads in the refrigerator, is that an indication of the expired expiration date of the relationship?“ I try to put things in order.
„You make it easy again. As always,“ you explain, „But I’ll tell you now what the expiration date of our relationship is, the one that’s on the spread.“ And that’s the moment when I take you by the hands and draw to me.
„The expiration date on the spread is a guideline. It may be a few more days, but it’s a reality,“ I explain. „Maybe our relationship has an expiration date too. You never know that exactly, but when that is, that’s in our hands. It’s what we can or want to do with it. It’s all up to us.“ And because you’re hugging me, I think it may be that it’s not yet committed, the expiration date of our relationship. After all, it really is not a spread.

The spread is like life, one has to taste it to make sure it is good, as far as a relationship, only the heart knows… 🙂

“There is no real ending. It’s just the place where you stopped the story.”
